About Me

Hello I'm Dr. Sarah Afriecq...

I am a licensed psychologist in Texas. I have been in the mental health field for over a decade. I earned my doctorate degree in clinical psychology from Marywood University in Scranton, PA. I commissioned into the Army in 2013 after being accepted into the Army's Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP). I completed my internship and post-doc residency training at Eisenhower Army Medical Center in GA.  During my post-doc residency, I received the  LTC McCoy Award for excellence in clinical psychology residency and was the top resident in my cohort. In the Army, I worked as a psychologist at Fort Campbell, KY and Fort Cavazos, TX (formerly Fort Hood, TX). I  also provided psychological services through teletherapy and in person while serving on deployments to Kuwait/Afghanistan from 2018 to 2019 and Germany, Poland, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Romania, and Hungary from 2020 to 2021. When I left the Army in June 2023 to start a family, I received the Meritorious Service Medal for my nine years of honorable service in the United States Army. From my background  in the military, I was exposed to servicemembers/clients from diverse backgrounds (i.e., gender, race, age, SES, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity), issues/conditions, and settings from  across the US and the world. I had to be adept at establishing a caring relationship with those I worked with. I believe you can learn something from anyone.

I am curious and interested about the person sitting across from me or on the screen in front of me.

The foundation of my approach to treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which looks at changing thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in order to manage and treat mental health conditions such as insomnia, depression, anxiety, and trauma. Additionally, CBT is effective for managing medical issues such as:  weight, blood pressure, pain, and diabetes management. I offer a structured CBT program specifically designed for pain management issues.

In addition to being a psychologist and Army veteran,  I am an Army wife and second generation American and the proud daughter of hardworking South Asian immigrants. I enjoy exploring the United States especially going to National Parks.

I love hiking/kayaking, being outdoors in nature, and spending quality time with my family.
